Data Recovery Tools
When it comes to doing any job you should always be equipped with the correct tools. If you start the job ill equipped without the correct tools then the job may be incomplete or it may go wrong. In data recovery we cannot afford these risks.
Hard drives are sophisticated precision devices, in order to change any internal components or even for diagnosis we require the correct toolset. HDRC (India) manufactured & developed their own in house data recovery tools, the data recovery tools were built to serve a purpose and to execute specific tasks not to be aesthetically pleasing showpieces.
In April 2008 HDRC authorized the release of their hardware data recovery tools for sale globally and internationally.
India tends to receive hard drives from a small group of the major manufacturers, at this stage it was assumed that the tools worked with all drives. After going to market HDRC discovered that the international standards for hard disk drives were changing. These data recovery tools manufactured were not able to be sold as universal platter exchangers, like most tools they had their limitations. As customers and staff relayed information to HDRC a team was put together to combat the issues arising such as metal inserts in the Seagate hard drives, or small gaps below 5mm in between the hard drive assembly and the outer edge of the platter. 5 months later and the team are nearer a solution for a universal platter exchanger which will remove the platters from all drives where the platters are not clamped to the spindle. The prototype I was tested by myself and seems very useful focusing on the mechanics and objectives rather than aesthetics. These devices are not going to be purchased to look pretty on the office desk. After testing of the next prototype in October the product should be manufactured ready for launch and we will have the single units we all need for any hard drive of a specified form factor. Development was slowed during research due to the inner assembly of each manufacturer hard drives having different castings; the new tool has to work around all of these.
HDRC recommends their product range of physical data recovery tools and aims to give excellent customer support where necessary. As always the customers come first, HDRC tools have been upgraded and enhanced with thanks to clients. We will continue to do so and urge our customers to send their recommendations or suggestions so we can sell you the product you require.
Latest suggestions have improved the platter exchanger tools, we are now currently selling version 2.1 which are molded single piece units. The magnet exchanger is at version 3.0 currently ESD safe, quiet, comfortable and the risk of any damage to heads or platters has been absorbed by the coating. The read write head removal tools version 2.0 are currently available, these are made of 100% plastic and no longer come with the heavy metal rods, thus making them lighter.
When we buy tools we discover they cannot do each and every task, most screwdrivers do not fit every screw, however we aim to continue to develop the products in such a way that they are universal or provide a set with accessories for varying sizes. The read write head tool is sold this way; you receive a set of 10 pairs of tools which 8 are at set heights for various platter widths, spacer’s height. There are two pairs in each set which are adjustable for 1.8in and 1.4in platters.
HDRC hard drive data recovery tools are now designed for the user and not for HDRC own in house use.
HDRC is currently preparing to upgrade the read write head removal tools once again. In doing so we are urging customers to supply feedback and suggestions to help us improve our tools based on their findings.
